All Inclusive
Virginia offers a wide variety of sporting activities to cater for each individual’s needs and we strive for mass participation from the learners at our school. Our coaches impart the latest knowledge and guide the children to further their sporting careers. Children are encouraged to participate in a sporting code each term. We consistently put out large numbers of teams each week for multiple sporting codes.
Astro Turf
Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in South Africa. Virginia is proud to partner with Danville Girls in the continued use of their Astro 4 days a week in the third term. We also use their indoor facility for indoor hockey in the fourth term. This has ensured that our hockey has grown in leaps and bounds with approximately 300 children playing each week.
Cater for a wide Range of Sports
We also proudly host an annual six-a-side cricket tournament in which the twelve top cricket schools in Durban compete, and an annual chess tournament, which sees around 200 children taking part.The emphasis at Virginia Prep is on participation which sees each age group fielding at least a “C” team in cricket and rugby and at least a “D” team in hockey, netball and soccer. We are, however, competitive enough to hold our own against our opposition, which includes some of the biggest primary schools in Durban.
Sports Tours
Virginia offers a wide range of sports each year. During the year we offer our teams in various sporting codes the opportunity to tour to various tournaments and festivals. Currently Virginia participates in the following tours:
- TWC festival netball tour
- Dunstan’s 1st XV rugby tour
- Camp Discovery 1st XI soccer tour
- Midlands 1st XI boys and girls hockey tour
With the demand for sporting excellence, we will continue to look at more opportunities for our children to tour and grow. Virginia also plays host to a 6-a-side cricket tournament, the annual VPS Chess tournament and a Dash for Cash gala.
